Establishment of PPQ

Quality Management at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) started with the establishment of the Quality Assurance Centre (PPQ) on 1 October 2001. PPQ is placed under the portfolio of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and a director has been appointed as the Head of the Responsibility Centre (PTj).

MS ISO 9001:2000 Certification

Starting November 2003, PPQ has taken steps to obtain MS ISO 9001:2000 certification for the whole of UPSI. This milestone marked our commitment to international quality standards and systematic quality management practices.

BPAQ Upgrade

Following the importance of this division to UPSI, it was upgraded to the Academic Development and Quality Division (BPAQ) on 1 October 2008. This upgrade reflected our growing significance in the university's quality management framework.

Restructuring To 5 Units

On 1 March 2015, BPAQ was restructured into five units namely: Quality Management Unit, Focused Research Unit, Professional and Talent Development Unit, Administration and Finance Unit and Information Technology Unit. The Focused Research Unit was rebranded to the Curriculum and Academic Innovation Unit in 2015.

Restructuring To 2 PTj

On 16 May 2017, BPAQ was restructured into two (2) focused PTjs, namely the Quality Management Division (BPQ) and the Centre for Academic Development (PPA). BPQ is placed under the Registrar's portfolio with academic quality management and organisational development functions while PPA remains under the TNC (AA) portfolio with academic development functions.

Compilation of Positions

The arrangement took place again at BPQ on 2 January 2018 by placing one (1) Director of grade DS54, one (1) Deputy Registrar grade N48, one (1) Administrative Officer grade N44 and two (2) implementing staff grade N19. The addition of new functions was also made by including tasks involving Academic Quality and Customer Management.

Approval of Deputy Director & Coordinator

To implement the expanding functions of BPQ, on 16 July 2018, UPSI's top management approved the position of Deputy Director and Coordinator bringing the total number of posts in BPQ to eight (8) people. The operations at BPQ were streamlined by forming four units, namely the Academic Quality and Accreditation Unit, Audit and Benchmarking Unit, Institutional Quality and Organisational Development Unit and Administration and Finance Unit.
